Fluorocarbon elastomers were first introduced in the mid-1950's.
Since then they have grown to major importance in the seal industry. Due to their extraordinary levels of resistance to chemicals, oil and heat, while providing useful service life above 200°C and low compression set, fluoroelastomers are the most significant single elastomer development in recent history.
These materials are preferred for a wide variety of high-performance applications as they provide long-term reliability even in harsh environments.
Advantages: High heat resistance; resistant to oil and almost all inorganic chemicals and organic compounds. Self extinguishing.
Limitations: Electrically conductive; relatively expensive; low resilience.
