Ethylene Propylene

EPDM is one of the most widely used and fastest growing synthetic rubbers, having both specialty and general-purpose applications.

The material has excellent resistance to heat, oxidation, ozone and weather aging due to a stable, saturated polymer backbone structure. EPDM is also colour stable. With good electrical resistivity and resistance to polar solvents (water, acids, alkalis, phosphate esters and many ketones and alcohols) it is commonly used for appliance hose, tubing, belts, electrical insulation, and rubber mechanical goods.

Advantages: Easily processed; higher heat resistance than other hydrocarbon rubbers; unaffected by ozone; high ageing resistance; vulcanisable by both peroxide and sulphur.
Limitations: Lack of tack; unsuitable for most organic liquids.
