Chlorosulphonated Polyethylene

Hypalon, developed in 1951, has become the common name for CSM, even though DuPont is not the only manufacturer.

It is noted for its outstanding resistance to atmospheric conditions and good resistance to chemicals. Similar to neoprene, but with different characteristics, CSM is used where there are extreme weather conditions. It is also used in linings, hoses, valve seals and gaskets.

Advantages: High continuous operating temperature; good chemical resistance (inorganic); good resistance to abrasion, ozone and UV; difficult to combust; self extinguishing.
Limitations: Lack of tack; attacked by most organic liquids; Poor compression set and dynamic sealing.
