Medisil medical tube is ideally suited for applications where strength, durability, long-life and non-reactivity with bodily fluids and skin is of primary importance.
The medical tubes can be platinum or peroxide cured. This refers to the method of curing (sometimes known as vulcanisation) used during the extrusion process when the tubes are formed.
Platinum cured tube uses an addition cure system that has no by-products. Peroxide cured tube uses a free radical cure system which produces organic acid by-products which can typically be removed by post curing (where the tube is exposed to a high temperature for an extended period of time).
Whether you choose platinum or peroxide cured, silicone medical tube has two main advantages over other materials:
- it does not contain plasticizers or other additives (that could leach into a drug product and cause toxicological issues).
- it is very flexible and tear-resistant (ideal for transporting fluids).
